Two interesting topics in this post.
1. Tech @ Regionals
1. My volleyball team played at the regional championships in Charlotte, N.C. the first weekend in April. We were in the championship match for Power Bronze for the 15's division. When you are playing on the opposite side of the court from the scoreboard, it is nearly impossible to see. This young man, probably high-school age, was sitting in the seats across the court from where our team was standing, holding an iPad. On the iPad was a program for keeping score. He kept score during the entire match, even when his team was on the side of the court where they could see the court. I thought that was awesome, because it was less stressful for me not trying to see the score throughout the game. One of my parents, who could see the official scoring, yelled out that the score was wrong. I immediately asked for a score check knowing the correct score from the boy with the iPad who I was watching the entire match. Sure enough the score was wrong and we were owed two points. Just and interesting example of how technology can help out even in the most unlikely situations.
2. A friend of mine shared this video on Facebook and I thought it was amazing. Check it out if you have a minute. Just the idea of it seems overwhelming to me.....

Dee,
ReplyDeleteYou never said how your team finished??? Congrats the championships! I am a NEW head volleyball coach for our girls (next Fall will be my 2nd season as head). We have a VERY young team, and I have my work cut out for me. I am replacing MY volleyball coach of 34 years, big shoes to fill. I would love if you have any resources and tips that you would be comfortable sharing. I have all of my starters returning from last year. Senior experienced setter which should help!
Anyway, now about the technology! lol Thank you for sharing your story of the IPAD. I have been going back and forth about getting inot the Apple world. I have come close a few times..but not yet. My PARENTS (in their 60's) have gotten into the IPhone thing, and now I think mom is even getting into an IPAD! They are beating me to the punch!
That is a great story! I love technology. My son's baseball coach has an app on his phone that tracks the plays too! Amazing! How did you do? Did you win? We made it to the quarterfinals at Emma's hockey nationals and that was pretty darn exciting.
ReplyDeleteWe took first in power bronze. There are three levels ... open is the highest and then power and then club. We were a club team and finished 1 st in power bronze. Very exciting weekend. Thanks for asking. I am now with a new team getting ready for aau finals in orlando in June. It's never ending!
ReplyDeleteI think that is a prime example of how our kids are using technology all the time without thinking about it... and they are implementing it in very useful ways-- probably ways we haven't even thought to use it. This makes me think about how limiting for them it must be to get to school and be told that those things aren't allowed.
